Infrared Hike

Since finishing out the year of my Project 365 photo challenge I have taken rather a long hiatus from posting any images.  It’s been rather liberating to not have to worry about keeping up with posting a daily image, but by no means have I taken a break from shooting.  In fact, I have been shooting nearly every day since the end of the challenge and lovin’ every minute of it!  Here’s a sampling of infrared images taken over the weekend while hiking at a nearby state park.  Thanks for stopping by!

Project 365 – Snowy Descent

As I stopped to set up today’s Project 365 shot, I longed to venture down the steps and discover the beauty that lay below.  But shod with boots that were meant more for show and warmth than traversing icy pathways, all the while toting my precious camera perched atop my tripod, all I could do was gaze longingly down the staircase in wonder.

But as I look at this image now I get that sense of the alluring attraction of this beautiful snowy descent and a curiosity for what lay below.  I don’t often feel like my images tell a “story”, which is a goal of every photographer, but this one feels as though it does.  What do you think?  Does it feel as inviting to you as it does to me?

Project 365 – Mushrooms

While on my hike today I noticed these mushrooms growing on a tree a little off way off the trail.  While I was photographing them a couple of ladies, who were also out hiking. asked me if they were edible.  I chuckled and replied that I hadn’t the faintest notion.  But it did get me wondering about them so I quickly poked around on the Internet to see if I could figure it out.  I have concluded that I still haven’t the faintest notion, but I think they do seem to resemble oyster mushrooms.  If you’re an experienced mushroom hunter I’d love to know what kind of mushroom these are.  The didn’t appear to resemble any of the poisonous mushrooms I was able to find, but I sure wouldn’t take my word for it.

Project 365 – Leaf Carpet

Today I had a pile of things on my to-do list, not the least of which were running and snapping a photo for my Project 365.  I was in a quandary this morning about my run because there was just so much to do today that I didn’t feel I had the time to squeeze it in.  In the end, however, I decided to kill two birds with one stone and get my exercise with my camera instead.  So, on my way to the grocery, I went to my new favorite hiking spot and lost myself in my photography for a while.

No really, I seriously did lose myself for a while!  I got so carried away shooting the beautiful autumn surrounding and wandering along the trails that I suddenly realized I had no idea where I was.  I am seriously such a rookie at this hiking thing.  I finally consulted a trail map and realized that if I stayed on my current path there was no way I was going to make it home in time for my little one’s school bus!  Yikes!  I quickly looked for an alternate route back to the parking lot and had to force myself to keep my camera in check.  (Okay, well that proved impossible and I did keep shooting all along the way, but at least I did try to limit myself.)  I hustled along the trail until I finally began seeing some familiar surrounding.

Happily, I even found time to dash into the grocery and I made it home in the nick of time for the school bus.

The cleaning will keep until tomorrow…

Project 365 – Prairie Grass

I took a lovely little photo hike through a nearby metro park this morning.  There was a blanket of clouds covering the sky so the shooting conditions were just perfect!  It was so serene and peaceful that I lost myself for about an hour in the solitude of it all.  I think my new love for photography has led me into another yet undiscovered passion: hiking!  It’s hard to believe I am only just now discovering the undeniable pleasure both of these activities add to my life.  But as they say, better late than never, right?

Project 365 – Brilliant Sun

Today’s photo is from a local metro park my husband and I decided to explore.  I took quite a few pictures, but once again it was during the worst possible time of day to shoot so almost every shot besides this one are destined for the t.r.a.s.h.!  As always, feel free to leave your comments, critiques, and suggestions below.  Thanks for looking!
